This is a very rare moment in history when footage captures a dictator in a moment of realization that he is screwed.

They actually filmed the execution. I remember seeing it on the telly. I was amazed at the brutal reality of automatic gunfire. I'd only seen machine guns fired in movies.

If only this story can make it happen in North Korea. Those people have been suffering for too long under that regime.

No one is more out of touch than a dictator just before he is overthrown.

I met a Romanian guy who was in the Romanian navy in the late 80s. He was assigned to Ceaușescu's yacht for cleaning duties. He said he could barely belive it when he saw it first. It was crazy luxurious and he's never seen anything like that before.

Power is merely an illusion. A very long illusion sometimes.

My mother was there on this day. Her mom had begged her not to go expecting that she'd be killed by the military. She told me that the people on the streets, in the crowds were shouting at the military men that in the crowds were their family and they'd be killing their brothers, sisters, mothers and fathers and eventually it was the military that sided with the people. It was a very inspiring story to me.

I absolutely adore these sub-20 minutes docus. It gets straight to the point without missing any details while not yapping about crap that's only vaguely related.
If you end up having to take up sponsorships as long as you keep things short and sweet, I'm down for it.

My mum, at the age of 17, was there, in Bucharest, just before Christmas, at the, now called, Revolution Square. She's seen shots being fired, she's seen people dying next to her. She told me, that she simply had to be there - that the communist rule was so dreadful, that even the danger of being killed wasn't enough to stop her. And I think that this is when revolutions break out - when people are no longer afraid, even not afraid of dying.

Ceausescu's son (whose name I forget) was a government civil servant. He was accused of financial crimes because of what his coworkers found in his desk: a bottle of whiskey, a chocolate bar and a pack of Kent cigarettes, a favored brand in Romania. The country was so poor, those items were considered a huge luxury. Don't ask me how I remember this, LOL.

Unfortunately the other actors weren’t punished for their actions. They sat in the government after the revolution.

One really interesting fact to note, as told by my mom who has lived in this regime, is that the revolution mentality basically started when they allowed the series Dallas to air on national romanian cable. The people, much like north korea had no idea other countries especially America had it so good.
