I made a mod that lets you place portals mid-air. This is one of the simplest yet most fun projects I've ever worked on.
This mod is available on Spp...

Obviously, the mod itself is insane, and so is polishing gameplay concepts around it. But the gameplay here is stupidly creative, too. I love how it's not just trying to finish levels, and gameplay mechanic is even used in innovative ways at some points.

If there was an entire custom campaign for this concept - I would be up for playing it.

imagine a tank of moon dust breaking from the wall and splitting open during a sequence in the game, and then you can do this. maybe there could even be some sort of gauge to control how far you place the portal

I can barely remember which portal to place next when I’m chaining portals, this level of coordination is wild

Guess there was too much moon dust in the air from the moon portals in previous playthroughs

This would genuinely be a really sick platformer concept, I adore the idea of a speed game where you have to figure out how to move your portals around to fling across entire rooms

I’d kill for a mod that cleans up and adds collisions to the open areas in portal 2, then gives you this thing with the added ability of scroll wheel controlling the portal placement distance. Just to have a sandbox that you could play with this in would be so much fun

If something like the portal gun were real, this might be closer to what it would be like than the normal game. An actual portal gun might very well produce spherical portals, and being able to put those anywhere might be what actually happens.

17:23 You can do this in the regular game with good placement of portals, it won't softlock you but it can be inconsistent when jumping out

I absolutely love how this - breaking an existing mechanic - introduced a whole new puzzle mechanic, with the portals being 2-sided. :) this seems like something you could make whole new unique maps with.

the scroll wheel should control how far the portal is from you, clicking it should swap between modes

One of the cool things to see was all the weird angles you could see stuff from

I love how this community just comes up with so many weird (and dumb lol) ideas which are insanely creative and change the foundations of the whole game
