The FBI's ViCAP site is arguably the scariest place on the internet. This is no ARG or internet horror project. The horrors we're gonna explore today ...

Spent some time on DOE, missing persons and obituary sites looking for my dad once. He had gone missing after being given a year to live by doctors, had not been seen in years. Turns out he was alive and well in an elderly care facility and because he's illiterate he didn't know anyone's phone numbers or how to call or communicate with anyone lol
He's still kickin

No matter who you are, or what you’ve done, there’s always at least one person on earth who’s thinking about you and hopes you’re ok

Just imagine how many of us could be left unidentified, with no family or friends to mourn us.

I learned why the reconstructions and identikit pictures look so weird. It used to confuse me, why such crappy reconstructions? Then I learned that in order to trigger someone's memory, they will exaggerate any notable feature the person/skull displays. So, if they had a gap between their front teeth, the artist will emphasize that --- often to the point of uncanny valley---- but it actually seems to be effective in terms of identification. Think about it. That unusual aspect of a person's face is also going to be the most memorable.

Great video, but one thing. :)
Reconstructions are not really made to resemble the person as close as possible. They usually look so uncanny because they highlight slightly unusual characteristics of a person, so that will stick out more if someone actually sees the person.
One case off the top of my head is Tent Girl.

Bro, even the most hardcore of horror movies couldn't even come close to what reality has in store. Even if the censors allowed it, you have to actually be deranged to mae true horror quality

That picture of Becca always send chills down my spine, I really hope she's identified soon.

One image that scared the beejezus out of me was the black and white photo of the clay reconstruction of formerly-unidentified "Septic Tank Sam", now known to be Gordon Sanderson.
Its the eyes in that picture/reconstruction. Its terrifying. When the pictures of the real him came out it was baffling how soft and kind he actually looked.

You should definitely do a video on ECAP, which is arguably even darker than ViCAP.

This is terrifying as they say you don't truly die until there is no one left who remembers you. And it's scary to think there are so many people where this is sadly the case.

Most of these cases I was already aware of but I love how Farrell tells these real stories without the spooky sensacionalist edits. I feel like it's a totally different perspective it didn't bother me to hear about the same people again.

8:37 - So many people describe this expression as one of horror, but to me, she looks like she's just pulling a goofy face. I think the feeling of horror is because we know what happened to her. (I've never seen that AI enhancement of the photo before, wild)

For the last John Doe, I can absolutely understand wanting to be unidentified after suicide.
I struggle with suicidal ideation, and Ive always thought I'd travel to a remote region and try my damnedest to never be found. To truly disappear. In a fucked up sense it sounds nice. I really feel for the fourth John Doe, and I can understand if he meant to be unidentified after death.

I've always wondered if a lot of these people are fragments of unseen crime operations who were just in the wrong place wrong time and if one-time, random murders are more common than we think

13:47 It's the clay hair. The face itself comes off as unnerving and uncanny sure, but having clay hair as opposed to a wig serves to emphasize every "not quite human" detail. If they used wigs to look like hair it may have come accross as being closer to normal.

There's one FBI site even worse, that one where they publish (censored) pictures of CSA cases, small details like a blanket or a piece of clothing, for anyone to recognise

To me, the creepiest ones are like the last one, where they use a post-mortem photo, usually with some touching up. I think there was one in the Black Dahlia case for example.
