When Simo was once asked what he felt when taking a life, he said, "The recoil."

As a Finn, I approve this this video! And great work pronouncing Häyhä's name pretty damn well. Ä and Ö not the easiest ones for English speakers out there.

Another fact about Pegahmagabow is that he would also sneak into enemy trenches while they slept to steal their medals and buttons off their coats. Sabaton also has a song dedicated to him and Simo Häyhä.

Another thing about Simo: he wanted to volunteer for the Continuation War (WW2) but due to his injuries was rejected

16:57 He said that shot absolutely made him crap himself because the only way he could have got it through the scope of someone would be if they were getting ready to take the shot on him in the first place.

I think it’s insane Simo was fighting for 5 months and got ~500 kills and with a normal rifle. He also survived a explosive to the face and lived till 96, what a legend.

Hathcock once spent days crawling in a heavily fortified enemy camp shot a north vietnamese general at 3 or 4 hundred yards with hundreds of enemy solders around. He was nearly stepped on. Inside of laos where he couldnt get any help. He pulled it off and got away clean. He also had some very crazy sniper vs sniper duels that he won. Obviously. Legend.

Another sniper worth mentioning was Semyon Nomokonov.
Semyon was a Eastern Russia resident with the Taiga people and had learnt how to handle guns since he was a wee lad to hunt both big and small games in order for his family to survive the harsh weather of the Taiga steppes. When he was 15, he moved to a city to learn another craft being carpentry but on the side, hunted games also.
By 1941, the Red Army was mass drafting people to join due to the Germans invading the nation thus he enlisted for service and was initially never given frontline duties but instead placed in the backline as a supply trooper as the officers of the unit found him to be slightly short for frontline services for whatever reason and knowing that he knows carpentry work, they placed him in said supply unit to manufacture wooden supplies like splints and stretchers for medic uses.
Now this is where things differ on how he became a sniper and there's multiple stories and rumours.
- One rumour stated that he was sent to bring back the wounded from the frontlines to the medical tent as the medics were already too flushed to do that. Whilst mid-mission, he noticed a German rifleman shooting at the already wounded people on the ground and was about to aim at him. He ducked, found a rifle laying on the ground, quickly aimed back at the rifleman and shot him down in a swift movement. He then evacuated the wounded back and the wounded reported Semyon's feat to his NCO which then got passed to higher ups who realized his potential and placed him, finally, in a combat unit and a sniper unit no less.
- Another rumour was that when he got his first rifle, he felt that aiming at target boards was no fun so he went out of camp and found a roaming German soldier. Just as the guy was moving, he led the shot and hit the German soldier in one fell swoop which shocked the soldier that went him him to test the rifle. This got reported up and then he got moved to a sniper unit soon after.
- Another rumour was that he had pleaded hard to be moved to a combat unit and the NCOs of the combat units was having none of it and even the Commisar was about to punish him for being a "pest" and for insubordination but one officer felt that he was being sincere and since he didn't give any trouble, they handed him a rifle and asked him to shoot at some empty bottles to see his accuracy levels. They placed 5 bottles at approx 50m and asked him to try shooting the bottles. Semyon aimed and fired one shot before returning the rifle to the officer. The viewers were shocked and thought he didn't understand the task and was arguing on whether to fail him or not. Semyon instead walked off past the firing range and headed into the woods behind. He then returned back to the range with a dead squirrel in his hand with a shot right thru the chest. The viewers then realized that instead of hitting the bottles, he had witnessed a squirrel scampering across the ground behind the targets and instead hit it squarely which was at a further distance than the targets being set up and also, way smaller at that distance but yet, Semyon killed the animal without a scope even. That impressed the officers on scene and they quickly promoted him to a sniper unit.
Rumours over, he did become a great sniper with over 360 kills and not all Germans as he was even sent to the final legs of WWII by sniping down Kwangtung Army soldiers in Manchuria. He even during his time as a sniper trained over 150 snipers himself in various battlezones he fought in and not only that, he would often be smoking a pipe whilst on or off mission thus he was nicknamed the "Taiga Shaman" and would often notch his smoking pipe with the kills he had done.
