If Valve is waiting for something "groundbreaking" to release Half Life 3, they should take a look at the current state of gaming and realize that releasing a good game would be considered groundbreaking. “A lot of the fans are probably dead now” you’re not wrong. I’ve read comments in HL-related videos about how their friends and family members have passed away either naturally or in accident while keeping the flame of hope alive in their hearts, that HL3 would come out someday, when they were alive. Just now, I read a comment from someone who said they were diagnosed with terminal cancer and was only given 12 months to live. Their only wish was to play HL3 before they go. And as someone who has personally waited 18 to 19 years since I first found the HL series, I cried reading their comment. Having a generation of people invested, ending things in a cliffhanger, with no definitive answer as to whether it will ever be continued to left to die is almost a cruel thing to do. People deserve closure, atleast.. if Valve one day, just straight up says “We’re done with HL, we will not be making a continuation”. The fans will hate them for it, but we’ll get closure, and that’s enough for a peaceful mind.
