Multiplayer dev here: paying the $100 steam fee gets you access to their relay servers, which you can use forever, for free, regardless of the amount of traffic or users. This allows a player to host a game and people to join it, safely through steams servers, so you don’t need to do any port forwarding or any other thing that would put the host at risk.
Assuming anyone making a multiplayer game on PC is going to use Steam anyways, it solves one of the big issues you mentioned

5:15 Keep Talking and Nobody Explodes is an example that you can still make a semi-coop game even thought its coded for singleplayer

The amount of time I've spent looking for Couch Co-op games to play with my wife is ridiculous, and that feeling of disappointment when finishing a Hazelight Studios game knowing you'll have to wait years for the next one.

I feel like the only issue with co-op game dev, is the lack of knowledge & good samples out there of creating co-op games. With that being said, im really sad you didn't mention fireboy and watergirl. Literally the best Co-op game ever made in history and no other game can ever beat it.

There is also another, much larger benefit of coop games. When you play games, you get dopamine, which makes you happy. But when you stop gaming, the dopamine goes away again, and you are no longer satisfied. When you play with friends you know, gaming turns into a social interaction, which generates lasting dopamine, which means that coop gaming brings you more (long term) statisfaction than singleplayer gaming, and can have a great impact on your mental health.

The LittleBigPlanet series was my life for practically 10 years straight. 4player Co-op with a user generated content community. Good times, wish we had a proper reboot.

I have been watching you for some time because, like most, gaming is a passion. And these videos, along with your channel and others, inspired me to not only create my own channel, but to further detail the importance of co-op games for my next idea. Please continue creating. These videos are fun to watch :)

As someone who grew up with 4 brothers, co-op games were a must have. As young boys playing Goldeneye we would start fighting each in real life when things got one sided, but then we got Perfect Dark and were able to just play against a bunch of bots and harmony was restored. I'm still very much a fan of Co-op stuff, I still play things like Letal Company, DarkTide, Vermintide, and Deep Rock with my siblings. We are always starving for more games.
My absolute favorite series is Rock Band, which is mostly based on the fun parties and game nights with friends and family, I do really miss having a group of people to rock out with locally.

I feel this so hard. I think the thing that makes video games so nostalgic for people is their interaction with other people while playing the game. When you were kids and video games were "new", your friends could come watch you play even a bad single player game and both have fun. Memories are made that way. Now that we are grown up and dont have friends coming over to play games together, we feel like the reason they arent satisfying it because the games arent as good. But really, its because we dont have the social interaction while playing, and because we arent surprised by as much just due to sheer amount of experience playing games. We need two things for video games to be awesome again: forced interaction with actual friends in person (not just public lobbies), original content (like a divorced couple working through issues), and challenging content. Those are the ingredients for a memorable experience.

The other day i replayed portal 2 co-op with my friend, and we had a blast and got through it all in 2 hours. Then we got two other friends who've never played it before and I spent another 3 hours watching them play it for the first time. It's nice to see co-op games becoming popular again!

Good coop games like it takes2 just give you experiences that others cant get close to.
Like playing a game together with people you love who usually might not be into videogames at all.

My goal is to make the "next great coop game" and market it as such, but just have it be a game about a chicken coop.
