I work for an enterprise. We never moved off redis but it was certainly considered. This likely won't cause many to return but it likely will cause those who are slow to move not to jump ship.

I don't see me using Redis again... The performance difference isn't big enough (and will get smaller in the coming weeks), to trust them again. Especially because the alternative is 100% compatible and run by the Linux foundation :D

I think they understood that the KEY is to understand their initial VALUES

No, it's not. You can only lose trust once. Never again Redis.

Nobody serious is going to switch back, its quite literally not worth the effort to take the risk again.

Ask yourself this. If Valkey had forked and was super slow and crashed a lot, would Redis have become open source again ? I STRONGLY doubt it. They would have doubled down on the pricing idea. The fact that they had their a** handed to them, and Valkey took the mindshare, the smart move WAS to move back to open source, and after a few months, offer an 'enterprise edition' ...
It will be a cold day in hell before I trust that company or Redis again. I am fairly certain this is how most other devs will see it

In my company we are building an internal database as a service platform. We just ended the migration to Valkey from Redis last week. We are not going back after performing at large and costly migration.

When you're in an abusive relationship and the abuser comes back and promises to not do it again, do you believe them? Do you Trust them? If they did it once, they'll do it again. This wasn't just a small misstep by Redis. While some will say it's their fault and go back to Redis, there's probably a good portion that will never trust them again.

AGPL! Not Apache or MIT. Businesses can't still easily use Redis if they integrate.

It's good to have options and competition. Otherwise we'll end up in the same scenario again, where the only real option goes closed source.

We switched to Valkey as soon as AWS supported it simply because it was cheaper (as you mention in the video). We lost nothing by doing this - its our caching layer and our access is predominantly a simple key/value path. Unlikely we'll move back for the simple reason of there's no gain for us. Redis will have to do something extraordinary to switch back. My biggest concern would be Redis merging in Valkey features and Valkey announcing it is sun-setting. I don't see that in the near term with the support of the cloud providers behind them.

Valkey is still the future. Redis returning to open source does not return the trust they broke. I imagine most large companies that had begun migration off Redis are still continuing that migration.

I don't understand how people villanize Redis, when the ones most winning with the open source license they were using were the big companies, using and offering Redis services without paying a penny for it.

I don't think it's worth for anyone switching back to Redis.
Open Source teams and projects will not risk Redis Ltd changing their mind again as long as a Linux-Foundation backed alternative is available.
For businesses using the software commercially ValKey's BSD license is still easier and less restrictive than AGPL.
Not to mention that Redis' 2024 changes included pretty strict rules on how their trademarks and logos can be used, which were not rolled back as far as I can tell.
JSON and vector support are nice features, but are common enough in other database solutions that they won't make many people switching to Redis either.
