Mistake correction: Apparently it was NOT Osamu Sato's dream journal that inspired LSD Dream Emulators worlds, but a game designers named Hiroko Nishikawa

I am 65 years old and I only got into the internet around 2005. I love those images. They are like surrealistic art.

as an older Gen Z with an abusive suburban upbringing, weirdcore is the closest art has ever come to simulating my memories. This and traumacore images can give you a peer into what it's like to not be comfortable with most of your past

For anyone who doesnt know, aesthetics are not just some internet culture phenomenon, but I would say the general level of interest in the field of aesthetics has expanded greatly due to the internet. Aesthetics is a field of philosophy dedicated to exploring art and beauty, that which appeals to human senses, why we have a taste for art, and how people judge it. An aesthetic, as a countable noun, is simply a style or "school" of art.

Who else enjoys these weird unorthodox videos? It is hard to explain these videos as they explore such abstract and odd topics; and only small/smaller channels post these kind of videos exclusively. So small that I don't even remember the channels. They just enter my recommendations once in a blue moon and are never seen again.
I am glad I remembered to subscribe to this channel. I think there isn't a word which describes feelings one has when watching such videos. This sub-genre of youtube is so dear to me.

Idk why, but 'weirdcore' and 'dreamcore' pictures tend to make me feel weirdly emotional. Like a sense of longing, sadness, or euphoria. I think it has to do with the fact that they tend to poke at different parts of your mind deep within you.

I love the text accompanying the images. These images also give me analog horror vibes. Both weirdcore and analog horror have the same late 90’s/early 2000’s undertone

I feel traumacore is like an extension of weirdcore's scary aspects. Especially in locations that are supposed to be fun and exciting as a child, but portrayed as a place you should be on your toes at. Because that's what it's like as a child in an unstable household... you have to walk around the house quietly or set off your mum again, you can't go into certain rooms because you know you'll see something you regret, you have to enjoy the birthday party at the indoor playground while it lasts, because when you get home you've got a scolding waiting for you. And the early 2000's visuals like those buttons and icons match with this well because through games we found a way to escape these realities. Especially in an age where every industry focuses on nostalgia instead of new content in an overly positive light, traumacore tends to show the ugly truths behind these nostalgic visuals. That not everything was rainbows and sunshine. And that especially back then, we as kids would have liked a disembodied voice or symbols to guide us in a situation where it seems you can't do anything right. And I think it's beautiful, honestly. That we've created this art form to give these memories a place as well and maybe even make peace with them

The “Activate Windows” text on the screen throughout the Dream Emulator gameplay strangely ads to the surrealism

the text on weirdcore/dreamcore images I think is supposed to represent your subconscious thoughts while dreaming. in my dreams sometimes I will have a person talking to me, but they really aren't talking. it's just my subconscious thoughts taking over and talking for them. So really, if you're talking to somebody in your dreams, the person represents you.

I am also a very vivid dreamer and can absolutely agree with your statement that weirdcore depicts dream like feelings. I also noticed that the dream enviroment will often create liminal spaces.
But back to weirdcore. I think the weirdcore theme ocurred often in early childhood dreams. I remember having many random uncoherent, sometimes "game like" snd overall weirdcore like dreams. I think this happens in a phase where the brain is not fully developed and is creating this random dream themes.
I think this may also be the reason why I am so fascinated by weirdcore.

these feel like a depiction of existence itself falling apart. some of them, i find quite funny. some others - alarming as hell, but i rarely find those. ive always loved surreal things, they spawn a sense of wonder and curiosity in my soul, as if there is something more that i could, or even should, know. the fact that its only an image makes my mind demand for answers even more, desperately trying to find a way to breach this border between fiction and reality, yet to no avail. it feels like, in a way, all of those uncanny images could be real. maybe in an alternative reality, or something similar to a whole different dimension that our minds simply cant comprehend. its fascinating, really

Also as sad as it is, our eyes as children see much more saturation.

6:08 I'm 110% I've been to this playground multiple times as a small kid. It's called Discovery Park, in Utah. We would go there on field trips. I'm pretty sure I lost a filling there while eating a fruit by the foot.
I think the weirdest thing is the one image I instantly recognize, is the only one that hasn't been altered.

Something about it also feels very much like waking up from a nap to a bright red/orange evening sky eerily shining in with all the lights turned off

How can someone release so many banger videos in such a short time?!
Weirdcore images are so conneted to me somehow, I cannot explain it. How fan a simple image with a black box and fancy powerpoint text make me feel so much fear, so much dread?
