Guatemala is one of the most violent countries in the world. 95% of murders remain unsolved, and the ultra-violent Maras manage drug trafficking, prostitution, and racketeering in the country and spread terror among the population. After several weeks of negotiation, we gained access to some of these gangs.

"95% of homicides are never cleared up."
That speaks silent volumes.

Watching from Canada but I was born in Guatemala. Iâve been back many times since I was a kid and I love it. If you stay away from the Capital where the gangs are concentrated youâll see how relatively safe and beautiful the country is. Iâm going back in September and I canât wait.

I hope that they get tough with these low thieves like San Salvador. The people live in fear. Makes me sick.

It's crazy how notorious these guys are. One of the gang members looks just like Jose, our hard working gardener..

Pedro moved there to make a better life but ruins so many. Very sad to do that to his own people, and justifies it in his own mind.

It is heartbreaking to see this beautiful country go through this. Salvadorans know well what El Salvador was like before (worse than this) and how safe it is now. We all hope Guatemala and Honduras get this problem fixed soon.

Been there twice and spent a month each time traveling all over the country. First time was in 2007 - the second time was in 2023. The people are great and the country is truly beautiful.

I'm a 33 year veteran teacher and 40 year missionary to many countries. I have been traveling to Guatemala to spread the Gospel and hand out 100's of chromebook laptop computers to schools and children in churches and poor neighborhoods especially in San Reymundo and Jalapa Guatemala. The people are amazing and humble. I love their food and culture. I will be returning for the 4th time this summer. I pray that these areas get cleaned up like El Salvador. God Bless them.
