In this video, we explore the psychological factors that cause this behavior and talk...

It's funny that people used to say that gaming was the worst way to spend time and now we need tutarials to play games

I ended up becoming a morning person. I was so fatigued after work I wasn’t doing anything. So I decided to not do anything and just go to bed sooner. I’ve become much happier getting up hours before work to exercise, eat, and relax. I also reserve video games to the weekend. Games do require more brain juice and I want to enjoy them rather than making them feel like work. I’ve even gone years not playing them and returned later more by passionate than ever. Don’t turn a hobby into a job.

One thing I've been doing lately when I'm not in the mood, is watch a gameranx video or just a short video with someone talking about a game they like. It really shifts my perspective and reminds me why I love games and it usually makes me want to start up one of the ones I have right after.

"because the hardest part is often just getting started." yeah actually. this is what i struggle with the most atp. i have the time and mood to play but for some reason i sometimes end up just staring at my game library and thinking "hm nevermind maybe i'll just watch some youtube videos instead" ... to this day i still havent finished totk LOL
watching this as a psychology major is definitely interesting (and reminiscent of classes lmao). you've applied the concepts in a way i never thought to so thank you for that. btw love your vibes. you're like a chiller version of daryl talks games (love that dude). keep up the great work <3

I have to say this is also great advice for picking up any hobby you've grown tired of- playing guitar, painting, dancing, and writing, I'll face similar roadblocks and solutions!

A way I try to combat this feeling is giving myself a goal of completing the game I’m working on. It may sound like I’m forcing myself to complete a checklist, but the feeling of completing a task that I find enjoyable makes me feel good in the end.

I had to ditch the 100 hr RPGs when I became a dad. Relearning the story & mechanics had me dreading what I used to love. It took me 4 years to learn to lean more into platformers & racing games.

Quick resume is a godsend on the Series X, its the one feature I really want the PS5 to adopt. Its actually one of the main reasons I prefer the Series X ecosystem, being able to hop out of a game, right into another without splash screens and loading your save makes the friction of switching games buttery smooth.

Man, thank you. I've been struggling with starting up a game since taking a break from monster hunter worlds. Leading me to question "what's happening to me". Your video cleared up a cloud in my mind and I'm really thankful. Love ya man <3

This is why when I feel tired of a game I jump into another, even if it is a demo, but I get that gaming night done! Even if it is just half an hour I did something I wanted instead of wasting the time scrolling pages.

I had a therapy appointment in the middle of a huge sims addiction one time, and I told him it was draining me and I didn't understand why, because I love playing. He reminded me that sims was also "real life simulator" and that I was almost living two lives everyday..... was a big realization for me about how much energy games can require

I turned off all subscription-based games and my console productivity has SKYROCKETED. I'm actually loving gaming again. It's not a bad habit/borderline addiction. It's a fun hobby again. It's been a much healthier way for me to approach gaming.

Props on the Stellar Blade OST track at the end; need to pick that up 🙌🏿🙌🏿🙌🏿.
Anyway, one thing I've been doing is make a Game Queue list in Vikunja. I even add the cover art to make it look appealing. I segment games that I want to play on my Steam Deck, and my PC with labels. For me, I max at 3 games each and I don't play anything else untill I move those games to complete or dropped (I organize it in Kamban view, so I guess you might be able to do the same thing in Trello).
Occasionally I'll get bored or the feeling for that game is not there and I'll move to On-Hold, but I try not to make that a habit since we all hate jumping back into a game 2 months later and not remember where you are or how to play things again.
I should also add that another YouTuber I listened to and agree with said, "You don't have to finish every game". Just because you have it, doesn't mean you HAVE to complete it. You suffer enough in this world already. Why add extra burden to complete some arbitrary list that only you will really care about? What is this a job? Nah, just enjoy my guy! Honestly, that's a lesson I'm still trying to learn. Like, I know I'll probably never play any of the Resident Evil games, despite how good everyone says they are. And honestly, that's fine by me. PLENTY of indie games to play anyway.
Cheers! 🎉
