pro tip from someone who works in this: it is the state offices of each senator that largely handles constituent cases, so don’t just email the “main line” of the senator, look for the information for the main district office.

Oh I've been full Karen for months now. There is no law against drunk dialing your senators, folks.

An important thing to point out, if you're arguing with somebody who thinks this bill won't affect them -- cutting social systems has really wide-reaching impacts. For example, I know doctors who have gone out of business when Medicare/Medicaid cuts meant a big chunk of their patients couldn't keep using them. That affects all of their patients, even the ones not on the programs. Cutting SNAP and food stamps affects the stores that accept them as payment, and thus the people who work there. Cutting social security affects retirement homes whose residents use those checks to pay for their fees, and thus the people who work there. It might not be direct, but you do have a connection to one of these social programs somewhere

I called both my senators yesterday and I called Senator Schumer. I am flabbergasted.

I haven’t heard anyone saying this, so I will. The Medicaid cuts will not only affect those who lose their coverage. It will cause hospitals, facilities, and healthcare providers to go out of business. So anyone who thinks they are safe and unaffected because they have good insurance through their jobs, it will affect you when hospitals close and you have to travel further to get emergency care. It will affect you when your in network provider has to close their practice. It will affect you when the nursing home that your loved one with dementia has to come live with you because the facility closed down. Call your representatives, senators, and tell them that you absolutely do not support this, and if they vote for this or even remain complicit in these cuts, that we will vote them out of office. This is going to affect EVERYONE!

As a woman of color, I knew there were a lot of evil people in this country. But I can’t reconcile this magnitude of hate and destruction so many people are rallying behind. A part of me wants to fight for what little happiness we can hold on to at this point, and the other part really wants to just give up completely. It’s a hellscape and a nightmare I’d desperately like to wake up from.

Our emergency fund dried up with a hospital stay for hubby in September of 24 and for me in January 25. Hubby then was let go in March. My credit has tanked and we struggled to find gas money much less celebrating our oldest son's high school graduation.
He's set to start community college in the fall and we have not a clue where the tuition funding will come from.
All this makes what's happening politically and financially so much more scary for us. It feels like we are treading water with tired legs. I'd love to be better prepared going into this mess. We are blessed to have a roof over our head and food in our bellies so we'll just keep on trucking.
Love your videos. Thank you so much for your insight.

Plenty of wealth concentrated in the upper class but the government refuses to tax enough of it to pay for everyone else's basic needs.
This is pretty much exactly what the main cause of the French Revolution was.

"Most Americans aren't onboard with these policies." Okay, but please don't confuse this with they wouldn't vote for him again. As long as there are culture wars, he will be popular. This is America.

My maga father in law has excitedly talked about no tax on tips numerous times when I’ve been in the room. It’s the only maga policy I’ve heard him talk about. That messaging resonated with him. That distraction worked, really well

Australian here. I’m not rich by any means but I feel like I won the lottery, not having been born in the USA.

The most dispiriting thing for me is that it seems like there are no political consequences. After this bill passes (Republican infighting is just theater) and people lose their benefits, Republicans can just trot out the latest culture war issue and their base will eat it up.

A note about the “no tax on tips”. This was 1st brought up in Trump’s 1st term. Then when Kamala ran, she took it up but specified it was for service workers. This is crucial. B/c the reason Trump put it forth was not to throw “red meat” to the working class. The No tax on tips is left vague. It’s for the purpose of corporate executives to classify their bonuses as “tips” so they don’t have to pay taxes on theirs bonuses. The Republicans truly are heinous and care nothing for the average person. They ONLY work for the rich.

Never stop, Chelsea. Your voice is impactful more than you know even if it doesn’t seem like it. Even if everything burns, we need voices like this.

I will say as a member of the military, there definitely CAN be some money extracted from the DOD budget, as we fail to account for each dollar every year. HOWEVER I feel with our current administration, they wouldn’t cut money from where it should be (i.e expensive weapons acquisition contracts) but would instead cut it from military member benefits. In a way, it has already happened to the VA. Basically, yes I think the military can more efficiently spend its money, but if the DOD was told to downsize, they’d downsize in all the wrong places.

The most sane videos I see. These videos and Josh Johnson's standup are what's gonna get us through; at least mentally...
