Every time I tell someone that I’m not on social media anymore, their only response is “wow, good for you. I wish I could do that” and I feel like that speaks volumes

Negative content spreads 6x faster than positive content.
That’s not an accident — that’s the business model.

it's no longer social. It's just media

Social media went downhill when we stopped emphasizing the "social" part of it.

I'm tired of privacy concerns, ads, predators, grifters and Ai invading every space.

For me, it’s because I am SICK of everything being tailored to me. A major part of socializing is being challenged and experiencing other point of views. On social media, it is just a constant feed of “You might like this…”, when all I want is to see what OTHER people like. I don’t want a computer telling me what I’ll like because it is almost always incorrect.

I really hope that in 5 - 10 years hardly anyone uses social media anymore and start to interact with each other again in real life

about 1 year ago i replaced my social media usage with meditation! when i first started my meditation journey i went from being constantly exhausted mentally, to the point where i couldn't even leave my bedroom for 5 days other than necessity. I lost all hope that anything would be different. 1 year later i now have several friends! I am leaving the house to socialise a lot more and i am no longer "stuck" in my own thoughts and feelings.

I quit social media a year and a half ago. I regret nothing.

I only watch YouTube, because other social apps or websites not only waste time, but people don’t even remember what they were watching 10 minutes ago, let alone if you ask what they watched two days ago. But YouTube, with its long videos and educational content, stays in memory and even teaches useful life skills.

I left social media in January. Best thing I've ever done. More people need to take a break, connect in real life and be present.

I think what happens to a lot of people is that they get off social media, but then their surroundings are dead. Everyone is on devices, no one is really outside, no one wants to interact or visit at one another's houses. There isn't anything interesting going on. So back to the phones.. even though nobody wants to.
We have to decide grounded reality and in-person human connection are important enough for us to make the extra effort to find it. Even though people act awkward if you ask it is what they and all of us really want.

Today it’s not ”social media”. It’s ”viral media”. And it made me stop using internet (other than YouTube, as of now at least)

I’m sick of all the untruths, hate, and a total lack of compassion and privacy concerns on social media, mostly on fb and X.

I quit Instagram because I unknowing started comparing my life to others. I have a good life. I live in a beautiful place. Decent job. Yet somehow I always felt like i wasn’t doing enough. Instagram is a highlight reel of others lives. People don’t post their mundane Tuesdays, doing dishes just like you and me. We forget most people are living similar lives.
