Metro is a really good game. But to make it better, play it on the hardest difficulty. Then it'll be even better. But that's just my opinion.

As for why you can ""look at your watch"", one of its main functions is to show you how much time you have left for your gasmask filter! It works in the ranger hardcore difficulty as well!

When I first got to the library section, I didnt know that I wasn't suppposed to kill the librarians. I entered the level with two thirds of my total shotgun shells and exited the elevator with four

I know this is an old video, but that extra difficulty thing in the options menu is exclusive to the Redux versions of 2033 and Last Light, basically it's asking you which of the games you preffered, normal is Last Light, so you get the nixie tube watch which gives much clearer reads on how much time is in your filters and it makes the enemies a little less tanky. Hardcore makes the game more like 2033, where enemies are a little more dangerous and it swaps the watch back to the analogue watch Artyom has in the original, which is a little harder to read if you don't know what you're looking for

The watch on your arm keeps track of how much air you have left, along with a warning beep when you are low.
You can see your equipment by holding down M to pull out a lighter, and clipboard. With them equipped, hit right mouse to bring up the clipboard and it shows your inventory. Hitting left mouse will activate your lighter, which gives off minimal light, and the flame actually points you in the direction to go.
Holding tab, and moving your mouse still allows you to switch your throwable, you just have to pay attention to the equip sound to tell what you just equipped. And if you are uncertain, the clipboard inventory also tells you what throwable you have active.
Holding Y gives you a clear view of your watch, along with the magazine of assault rifles to tell how many bullets you have left in the mag.

Also, in the OG Metro 2033 you can kill enemies in one or two shots as opposed to the Redux version which is noticeable cause in the original Khan can pretty much mow down most of the nosalises in the tunnel( the one you said you died in forty times) before the anomaly arrives so you don't have to lift a finger.

What a coincidence, i just finished 2033 two days ago for the first time. Such a wonderful game. One of the rare ones that made me care for my companions

a few years back i played 2033 on ranger hardcore and turned the brightness ALL the way down so that using my light/NV goggles and the illumination from the environment was necessary. it was really fun sneaking around and it made it really intense having to manage my light with the battery charger

Metro is a great experience at ranger hardcore. The only bad thing is when you need to change the throwable and need to hold tab a move the mouse to a direction and watch for the sound.

0:49 I completely understand, I got into Metro 2033 last week and I went with the classical feel and the normal difficulty, this being my first horror/survival game

The first time I played metro 2033 I played on ranger hardcore, I loved that it made you focus on stealth a planning ahead.

I've been playing metro for the 5x time on my ps5 and im lucky enough to have an oled tv too. With that setup I'm actually surprised at how beautiful and immersive looking the game is. It nails lighting.

When I first played it I started on normal but then I just didn't continue it. Later I played the entire series in ranger hardcore and It was a blast. Keeping inventory, counting every bullet, seeing how much time you have with your filter and being either relieved or terrified by the number... It absolutely gives you the feeling that everything is high stakes. The only downside is you can only keep 2 weapons.

Although the ranger difficulty was obviously designed for people who already finished the game once, I think it works just fine for people who are into this type of games. I remember playing it on a shitty PC MANY years ago, and it worked just fine, with the only odd part being that the interact icon would not pop-up and make just a few scenes slightly harder to progress as a result.

Funny I just did the same a few weeks ago.I also turned on subtitles and played on Russian to get even better emersion.I tried remembering every good moral point and actually got the good ending for the first time!It was hard later on (I HATED the part where you have to carry the boy) but it was SO rewarding seeing the credits roll and enjoying this wonderful game.Seriously I can only recommend trying too hard but rewarding.
