Despite the living conditions, the residents seem to be making the best of their situation, and don’t appear to be miserable or unhappy. In fact, there’s a big sense of community and resilience within the island that you can see from their optimistic energy. They’re even friendly and accommodating to tourists. And the way they consider rain to be a blessing to the point they party on the streets really changes your perspective on things. They look happy and peaceful.

Every time you think you cannot be amazed, there is a video like this one popping up randomly.

The lottery dispenser in a place like this is the most dystopian thing about this.

This is my go to destress channel now. The stories are sometimes sad but for some reason give me hope and optimism and I learn something.

Everything about this is incredibly fascinating, on one hand we see an crowded, unsanitary island, with a population generally living in poverty. While on the other we see an almost perfect community of people who are able to get along and live happily, and organize without a proper government.

I see a lot of people talking about how bad it would be to live here but there is a reason why the life expectancy is so high here despite their living conditions. It goes to show how important a strong healthy community is for life.

The birthday party was wholesome. Kids have no idea what it’s like to survive but their parents still make the effort to make their bday special ❤

My anxiety levels rose while watching this. A lot of the time I find myself needing complete silence and that would not be the place for me. I do love how there is no crime and resolutions to conflict are easily met. If only large countries could do this!

how come I have never heard of this island? as a teacher, I feel students would really benefit from watching this documentary! what great discussions it would prompt!
