To this day, if there’s one thing I despise Disney for after the toys to life fad ended was them shutting down their game studio side of them. They basically chop off a completely good working usable limb that they end up using anyway in a rental worn down state.

It’s sad to me, i actually loved everything about Disney infinity. To this day, im still looking for some figures… at a low price of course

It's funny how the best toys to life in terms of the toys themselves was lego dimensions, only because the toys were Lego, so they were very good quality and could be played with outside the game. They also offered characters for themes lego had not made yet.

It's so weird seeing gameplay of the Toy Story 3 game as someone who was chronically addicted to Disney Infinity as a child. The amount of assets that were reused makes it so clear it's the same studio behind it. It almost looks like Disney Infnity if it were modded or something, but it's not.

Anyone ever notice how even when there’s crossover, the amount of actual inter-franchise interaction is minimized as obsessively as possible? Like these games for example, the actual characters stories are isolated to their own specific isolated worlds. And when they aren’t they make it abundantly clear that these are NOT the actual characters but “toys” in either “play sets” or the “toy box”.
Kingdom hearts has that obsessive rule where the Disney characters are forbidden from even knowing other worlds other than their own exist let alone actually travel to them.
And it’s not just Disney’s games. Pretty anytime two or more of Disney’s franchises are in one thing it’s always either them completely isolated to their own segments separate from each other, or they’re explicitly non cannon appearances essentially acting as cameos in an ensemble or “actors”. That and/or they’re all dropped in some oc neutral ground completely separate from their home worlds or some separate mash up world that acts like they’ve always been neighbors or something.
They NEVER actually interact with and discover each other’s worlds and stories in any meaningful capacity. And honestly these companies ALL dodge actual deep crossover like this.

my parents got me disney infinitely when it first came out, and continued to get 2.0, 3.0, and any character i wanted. im aware that makes me sound really spoiled, but watching this made me realize why my parents were broke. i never knew how expensive they all were, and i feel bad for always asking to get new characters. they were just trying to make me happy. i miss this game so much and i always cry whenever i think about it (its the nostalgia), but now i will be crying for a different reason

If you look at what Disney infinity 4.0 was supposed to be, you can see that the characters would’ve been able go into another properties universe, like Elsa in Star Wars or Aladdin in the Avengers. If you look at the beta footage you can see yoda, Judy Hopps, and Aladdin fighting against battle droids and agrabah guards in one play set. If 2.0 had been updated to include Star Wars, and 4.0 was released right after as 3.0 to include all the new changes, the game might’ve survived.

I preferred Skylanders because it actually had a proper story. I remember the frustration with Disney Infinity feeling so limited when we didn't have many characters or extra pieces :( The irony of "play without limits"

I'm really surprised you didn't mention amiibo during all of this, considering they're one of the longest-standing toys to life with new ones coming out literally tomorrow (with the new legend of zelda ones and street fighter 6).

Fun fact. Did you know that 2.0 is still has online multiplayer for ps4 and 5. As well as cross play. On ps5 and 4. 3.0 can play coop online on ps4 and 5

>The Playsets limited what characters you were allowed to use. Some characters don't work in Playsets at all
>You could use further characters, BUT you have to find their coins.
>Characters were the same 2 archtypes: Melee or shoving
>You could restrict what characters to use in your Toy Box levels. Found a Toy Box you like? Don't have the character? Too bad
Disney Finity. Finite play. Finite possibilities

I was so excited for Disney Infinity when it was first announced. I thought it would be like Kingdom Hearts but without the final fantasy stuff.
Where we could explore different Disney worlds and have fun. But the toys to life thing turned me off from actually trying it.

When I was a kid, I saw this game at a Best Buy, and wanted it. Then I got it for Christmas, and told all my kindergarten classmates I got an Xbox.

To put it simply, the market got stretched too thin the more different options showed up.

Does Disney not realize how BIG the video game scene is? Even if Infinity isn’t still going, they could’ve kept their game studios and servers running (RIP My Muppets Show 💔).

I own practically everything from these games, from the early days of 1.0 to the times of 3.0. I cannot begin to explain how relieved I am to here that there's COMPLETE Steam versions of all three titles, and I can't wait to play them!

Me personally, i think they messed up by releasing new games instead of adding on to the original. Meaning that none of the story content carried over. And since this was during the transition era of consoles, you had to have your old console still hooked up and switch between them. And if youre tv only had two hdmi ports, tough luck

I played Disney Infinity (only 3.0) most of the time with my sister. I never knew it stopped working despite the online mode not functioning.
I somehow forgot about it in the pandemic until last year I wanted to try playing it again. My friends and my sisters really enjoy playing it again. It feels good playing it nowadays.
And yeah, I do feel quite sad it was discontinued but Disney usually does this to projects.
